CNAs
A CNA is a certified nursing assistant. Certified nursing assistants, also known as certified nurses aides, have completed an accredited CNA program and taken a state exam to be placed on the CNA registry. They work under the direct supervision of a nurse and are an important part of your healthcare team.  See page 2 for a Poem written by our very own, Anna Marie McCarthy, Nursing Director on 3North.  Thank you Anna Marie for sharing!

I want to hear from you…
Nancy Travis had a great idea to share some of your fun facts on FB and Cape Pride.  Could you write a short blurb (no more than 4 sentences) about something very cool in your department?  A fun fact, something you and your colleagues do every day, something unique?

-How many heart beats does telemetry monitor on daily basis?
-How many square feet of hospital feet does housekeeping clean in a day?
-How many feet does a transporter walk in a day?
-How many calls come in to the PBX each day?
-How many books are in the Medical Library?
-How many classes are at the Wellness Center
-How many meals are served each day in the Cafeteria?

CAPE PRIDE - May 20, 2015

Good morning Cape Coral Employees, Physicians, Volunteers, Auxilians…

Cape Coral Hospital Receives 2015 Sterling Award
Cape Coral Hospital is proud to be the first community hospital in the state of Florida to receive the Governor’s Sterling Award.  For 23 years, the Sterling Award has recognized organizations and businesses in Florida that have successfully achieved performance excellence within their management and operations.

“It is an incredible honor to announce that Cape Coral Hospital has received the Governor’s Sterling Award for 2015 and has been identified among the best of Florida’s organizations and institutions,” says Scott Kashman, CAO of Cape Coral Hospital.  “It is through the dedication of our entire team that we are able to achieve the level of excellence required to receive this award. Most importantly, through the application process we learned so much about ourselves, how we operate as an organization and how we can continue to improve and deliver even better care in the future.”

Sterling matches the Malcolm Baldrige-based assessment.  Our management system is assessed against research-
based best practices in seven categories:
• Leadership
• Strategic Planning
• Customer Focus
• Measurement, Analysis, Knowledge Management
• Workforce Focus
• Operations Focus
• Results

We are working on celebrations and will share as we have more information.  This was truly a system-wide supported effort.

Kudos
• Stroke Awareness Month - In recognition of May being Stroke Awareness Month I would like to remind every staff member that YOU play a key role in recognizing the Signs and Symptoms of Stroke.

Remember the word “FAST”
o Face Dropping, or appears unequal
o Arm Weakness
o Speech Difficulty with words or answering questions
o Time Call 911 -  Don’t Wait

Your ability to recognize someone having a Stroke and responding quickly is critical to preventing long term disabilities.   Stroke is the 5th leading cause of death in the US.

I would like to thank the Cape TEAM: all the ED Physicians, the ED staff, Radiology, Pharmacy, Lab, ICU, Medical-Telemetry, NPCU, Dietary, Speech, OT, PT, Care Management, Clinical Educator, Clinical Regulatory Analyst, Spiritual Services, Wellness Center and the Rehab Hospital for their ongoing daily dedication, compassion and care they provide by working together for each patient, their family members and the ongoing support and dedication to educating our community about our Stroke Program.

• Happy EMS Week!

I want to hear from you…
Please note we are proudly displaying our Recipient Award (top left corner).  What does this recognition mean to you and your department?

CAPE PRIDE - May 6, 2015

Good afternoon Cape Coral Employees, Physicians, Volunteers, Auxilians

Annual Culture of Safety Survey
The 2015 Culture of Safety Survey period runs May 1-30. You will receive an email with a link to the survey, which should take 10-15 minutes to complete. For those without email access, paper copies of the survey will be available through your unit-based Safety Coach or department leader.

It is important to answer as honestly as possible so we can identify areas of strength, as well as opportunities for improvement. Please note that your individual survey responses are confidential and will remain anonymous. Everything we do at Lee Memorial Health System must focus on keeping our patients safe and helping them heal; and our goal is to assure no patient is ever harmed. Remember, patient safety begins with you and me and ends in zero!

We appreciate you taking the time to participate in this important survey. If you have any questions, please contact your immediate supervisor or Erica Reist in Planning & Strategy at 561-5089. Thank you for your commitment to patient safety, and for all you do every day and night on behalf of those we serve. You are truly caring people, caring for people.

• Thank you, Child Development Center Staff and Teachers!  Teacher/Provider Appreciation Day is a special day to recognize child care workers and is celebrated every year on the Friday before Mother’s Day.  Our child care professionals are the world’s unsung heroes.  Research shows that early childhood is the most critical development period in a child’s life.  Thank you to all of the Child Development Staff for teaching and nurturing our young children while other Lee Memorial Health System staff is taking care of our patients.

• Congratulations to 3 West for contributing to the stroke program by discharging patients with stroke information, calling “Stroke Alert” if a patient was having a possible stroke during their admission.  75+ pewter “brain” pins were also contributed staff who achieved NIH Stroke Certification.

• May is Better Hearing and Speech Month

Caring People, Caring for People
I just wanted to write each of you a note to tell you of an experience I just had personally here at Cape Coral Hospital. I was recently admitted to this hospital with chest pain. I just want you to know, that I could personally see that our hospital has done remarkable things to improve on patient satisfaction.  From the moment I walked into the ER, my Dr had called ahead to say she was sending me here for treatment it was truly the best experience I could ask for as a patient. I am obviously an employee here and really not fond of being a patient myself lol, who is I guess but I could not have asked for a better experience.  Starting with the first ER technician, my amazing ER physician, and the awesome nurse I had as well. I was transferred to 2W in a timely manner, which I was very surprised because I know we have been so very busy. I work in medical records so I know how busy we have been. Once I got to my room I was greeted by a nurse who was very attentive and genuinely concerned for my well-being. I could seriously go on and on.  To my awesome Dr. from the hospitalist group, to my cardiologist and my surgeon, just EVERYTHING was so amazing.  Thank goodness after a six day stay in the hospital I ended up need gallbladder surgery. I am feeling good and back to work after being out for about two weeks I didn’t want to wait for a survey, and I felt that as an employee here I should let you both know of my experience.  I would recommend our fine hospital to anyone I know.  Thanks for everything you have done yourselves in making such positive changes to our amazing hospital.  I can’t forget to mention transport and the dietary department s well; EVERYTHING and EVERYONE were just wonderful!  Thank you for sharing your story with us CM.

I want to hear from you…
Share a story of the most improved outcomes in your area.  Top 3 stories win lunch or dinner for your team.
